NOW AVAILABLE: Accessible Healthcare for People with Disabilities: An Implementation Guide for Healthcare Organizations

ACCESS THE GUIDE HERE

People with disabilities continue to face significant barriers to high-quality healthcare. DEC’s new Implementation Guide is a comprehensive resource to help healthcare organizations close those gaps.

Designed for organizations of all sizes — from small rural clinics to large health systems — the Guide supports any role, from frontline staff to executive leadership. It includes four chapters:

1) Building a Disability Accessibility Program

2) Documenting Disability Status and Accommodation Needs

3) Providing Accommodations

4) Effective Communication

The DEC Team is grateful for the many contributors who helped develop and provided feedback on the Guide, including partners working on disability accessibility initiatives at healthcare organizations, researchers, advocates, and others with lived experience. Portions of the Guide were supported by the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (R01DC020188) and the WITH Foundation (233752).

Please share this resource widely as we continue working to improve disability access in healthcare!
